Camera at eye level, light on your face, clear sound, notes where your eyes can reach them, and nothing private on the screen you share. Tick each line as you do it. Do it the day before, then again ten minutes before the call.
Zoom has a free test meeting at zoom.us/test to try camera, speaker and mic before the day. In a meeting, your name can be changed from the Participants list.
Joining from a link, the join screen lets you pick camera, mic and speaker before you go in. If you join without an account, you type your name there, so type your full name.
The join screen shows your camera preview and the mic and speaker in use; change them there if they are wrong. The name shown comes from the Google account you are signed in with.
Go through every line at the hour of the call. Light, noise and internet change through the day; this is when you find the problem, not five minutes before.
Once the room works, press "Clear ticks". The list is ready again for the day itself.
Run the last two groups again: before a screen share, and ten minutes before. Then close this page too.
Put the lens at eye level (a stack of books under the laptop works), sit about an arm's length away so your head and shoulders fill the frame with a little space above your head, and have the light in front of you, not behind. When you talk, look at the lens, not at the faces on the screen.
On paper or a sticky note beside the camera, as a few keywords, not full sentences, so your eyes stay close to the lens. Keep them off any screen you might share.
No. It is a checklist you tick yourself. A web page cannot see your room and cannot know what the meeting app will show. To see what a screen share shows, use the screen share check, where you share your own screen and look at the result yourself.
ClapAssist is a Mac and Windows app. During your video interview it hears the question and shows a first sentence to say, in short lines you can read while you talk. It stays out of screen share on every plan, and the screen share check lets you see that on your own screen. Your resume and notes are never stored on our servers.
