Your letter is read and checked in this browser. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you press an AI button.
Drop a PDF, Word or text file, or paste the text. Any length is checked: a short letter gets a low score and the reason.
The job title, the company and the post. With the post you also get the job match: which of its skills your letter names.
You get a score out of 100, a verdict (send it, fix it or start fresh) and a note beside each paragraph. Edit right there and the score updates.
Work through the notes by hand, or press Fix my letter: the AI rewrites against the notes and you pick each change. Then download PDF or Word.
A made-up Data Analyst letter to Brightline Stores, the one “See a sample check” opens. Below is what this checker says about it, word for word.
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to apply for the Data Analyst position at your company. I am a hard worker and a team player who is passionate about data, and I think I would be a perfect fit for this role.
In my current job I make reports for managers and I work with Excel and SQL. I am a fast learner and I believe I can learn anything quickly. I have also helped the team with dashboards.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Alex Morgan

Each paragraph of your letter sits next to its notes: the stock opener, the filler phrase, the result buried in paragraph three, the close that forgets to ask for a call. Edit the paragraph right there and the notes and score update as you type.
Paste the job post. The page lists the skills it asks for, whether your letter mentions each, and whether your resume backs it up. Tick the ones you really have and the AI weaves them into the paragraph where they fit.
Pick a resume from the Resume Builder or upload one, paste the post, choose the tone and length. The draft uses only your real results; a yellow box marks any number only you know. Rewrite any paragraph three ways: shorter, stronger, warmer, more formal. Tap up to three lines of the post and every AI button answers them first.
Six designs with the same names and looks as our Resume Builder, so your letter and resume read as a set. Change the font, size, spacing, margins and color; US Letter or A4. Download PDF, Word or text, or copy an email version. The PDF is a real file made in your browser, with text you can select, so a hiring system can read it.
Six groups, 100 points. A check you pass gets its full points, a partial one about half. Checks that need your resume or a company name are left out until you add them. Three limits: a letter that greets or names a different company or person than the job post stops at 60, a letter with [blanks] still to fill stops at 59, because neither is ready to send, and a letter under 80 words is held at half its word count, so a one-line draft never outscores a real letter.
| Group and what it checks | Points |
|---|---|
| Opener: the company named in the first two sentences (5), the role named (4), no stock first line such as “I am writing to apply” (6) | 15 |
| Evidence: results with numbers (10), your best proof near the top (5), adds to the resume instead of copying it (5), every skill named is on your resume (5) | 25 |
| Filler and tone: no filler phrases (8), not every sentence starting with “I” (5), confident wording (3), easy to read (4) | 20 |
| Length and shape: 150 to 400 words (8): a page is 250 to 400, an email or a job-site box 150 to 250, 3 to 5 paragraphs (5), no wall of text (2) | 15 |
| The close: asks for a next step (6), sign-off and your name (4) | 10 |
| Greeting and details: greets a real person (5), your email and phone (4), date (2), who it is for (2), no leftover template gaps (2) | 15 |
The job match is a separate number: the hard skills the post asks for that your letter mentions (60 points, weighted by how often and how firmly the post asks), soft skills (15), the job title (15) and the company name (10).
The rules follow Resume Worded’s cover letter checker (opener, evidence, filler, 250 to 400 words in 3 to 5 paragraphs, a close that asks for a next step), Indeed’s format guide, and university career guides (MIT, Purdue): name the hiring manager when you can, “Dear Hiring Manager” when you cannot. Reading ease is the Flesch formula; our syllable count is close, not exact, so the page says “about”.
Yes when you cannot find a name after a real look at the post and LinkedIn. A name is better, a wrong name is worse than none, and the checker flags a greeting that does not match the company or contact in the post.
Not by itself. The checker only points: a note beside each paragraph with the fix for it. If you want, Fix my letter asks the AI to rewrite against those notes, and you see each change next to your own words and tick the ones to keep.
No, and no tool can tell for sure. It flags what makes any letter read as generic, whoever wrote it: stock openers like "I am writing to apply", filler such as "passionate", "team player" or "delve", and no result anyone could check.
The job match is the keyword part: which hard skills from the post your letter names (weighted by how often and how firmly the post asks), the soft skills, the job title and the company. The letter score is the part a person reads for: the opener, proof, filler, length and the close.
Yes, with no limit and no account. The checks run in your browser. Only the optional AI fix sends your letter, and the page says so next to the button.
A letter under 80 words is held at half its word count: a 40-word note scores 20 at most. A few lines cannot show a result, a reason for this company and a next step, which is what the checks look for. Write three short paragraphs, or press Write a new draft for one built from your resume.
150 to 400 words in three to five short paragraphs: 250 to 400 fills one page, 150 to 250 fits an email or a job-site box. That is the range Resume Worded's checker and Indeed's guide both give, and it is what our length check uses. Shorter is fine for an email or a job-site text box.
No. Pick one or two results that answer what the job post asks for most, and say what they meant for the team or how you got them. Our check flags any sentence copied from your resume word for word.
The hiring manager by name if you can find it in the post or on LinkedIn ("Dear Ms. Rao,"). If you cannot, "Dear Hiring Manager," is fine. Avoid "To whom it may concern": it reads as a form letter.
Files are read in your browser, and your letters are saved in this browser, with a delete button. The text of your resume, and what you send to the AI, are saved to ClapAssist so our tools can fill them in for you next time; see or delete them at clapassist.com/my-data/. Only the AI buttons send text, and only what the note under each button names.
Yes. PDF, Word (.docx), plain text and an email version are all free, with no watermark and no account. The PDF is a real file made in your browser in the design you picked, with text you can select and copy. It uses Helvetica or Times, the standard PDF fonts closest to your design.
Out of 100 from six groups: the opener 15, evidence 25, filler and tone 20, length and shape 15, the close 10, greeting and details 15. Every check shows its points and the words it is about. The job-post match is a separate number: hard skills 60, soft skills 15, job title 15, company name 10. A letter under 80 words is held at half its word count, so a one-line draft never outscores a real letter.
