Product Manager Interview Questions by Company

Prioritisation, metrics, working with engineering, and the story of a launch that did not go to plan. Pick the company you are interviewing with. Each page lists the questions, what the interviewer is checking, a frame for the answer, a sample spoken answer and the red flags to avoid.

A product manager interview is about judgement: who the user is, which problem is worth solving first, and how you would know it worked. You will be asked to think aloud about a product, to choose between good options, and to tell the story of a launch. Each company asks about its own users, so the same skill sounds different for a shopper, a developer or a small business owner.

What a Product Manager interview checks

How to prepare

  1. Pick two products you shipped or studied and be ready to explain the user, the problem, the choice you made and the result.
  2. Practice product questions aloud with a simple order: user, problem, options, choice, measure.
  3. Prepare one story where the data disagreed with your opinion and you changed your mind.
  4. Read the company page below and use its products in your practice answers.

The rounds of a Product Manager interview, and what each one tests

The names change from company to company. Most processes use some mix of the rounds below, and a smaller company may cover several of them in one conversation.

A worked Product Manager answer: “Our weekly active users dropped last week. How would you find out why?”

An example spoken answer: “First I would check that the drop is real. Did anything change in how we count users, such as a tracking release or a dashboard edit? I would compare with a second source, like server logs.

If it is real, I would split it: by platform, by region, new users against returning ones, and by app version. A drop on one platform after one release points to a bug. A drop everywhere at once points to something outside, like a holiday or an outage at a partner.

Then I would list what changed that week: our releases, a campaign that ended, a competitor launch. I would pick the most likely cause, say how to confirm it, and say what I would do in each case. A bug means roll back and add a check. A seasonal dip means showing the same week last year before anyone panics.”

Why this Product Manager answer works

Practice it out loud in the AI mock interview, which asks follow-up questions and gives feedback on your pace and filler words. Then try the same steps on a number from a product you use every day.

Product Manager interview questions people also ask

How do I prepare for a product manager interview?

Work in this order. Write your launch stories first, because every round draws on them. Then practice product sense on apps you use each day, out loud, with a timer. Then practice metric questions: pick a feature and name its main measure and the numbers that must not get worse. Last, study the company's products and users.

What is a product sense question?

It asks you to design or improve a product, such as a new feature for a ride app or a product for older adults. There is no single right answer. The interviewer watches how you choose a user, find their biggest problem, compare a few ideas and pick one for a stated reason.

How do you answer “What is your favorite product?”

Pick a product you really use. Say who it is for, the problem it solves, the one design choice that makes it work, and one thing you would change. Skip the most famous answer unless you can say something new about it. The question tests how you look at products, not your taste.

Do product managers have to code in the interview?

Most PM interviews do not ask you to write code. Some technical PM roles ask you to explain how a system works, read an API description or talk through a database choice. You need to follow the engineers' trade-offs and ask good questions, not build the thing yourself.
