In short

What an AI interview assistant does in an Irish job interview

ClapAssist is an AI interview assistant for Mac and Windows. During a Teams, Zoom or Google Meet interview it listens on your own laptop, catches each question and shows a suggested answer drawn from your CV and the job spec, within a few seconds. It never joins the call, and your screen share does not show it.

A lot of hiring in Ireland now starts on a screen: a recruiter call after you apply on IrishJobs.ie, Jobs.ie or LinkedIn, then a video interview with the hiring manager, then a panel. Plenty of candidates are also interviewing in their second language. ClapAssist understands English and many other languages, so it still follows a question when your interviewer has a strong accent or switches language for a moment, and the "Answer in" setting keeps the suggested answers in English.

3 steps

How it works

  1. Add your CV and the job spec. Paste the ad from IrishJobs.ie, Jobs.ie, LinkedIn or the company's own careers page. Every answer then starts from your own work, not a generic script.
  2. Join the interview the normal way. Click the Teams, Zoom or Meet link and press "Listen" in ClapAssist. No bot appears in the meeting and there is no browser extension.
  3. Glance, then say it your way. Each question gets an opening line and the points worth making. Cmd+Enter (Ctrl+Enter on Windows) gives you an answer straight away.

When the call ends, a written recap and the transcript are saved to your account, encrypted, so you can check what you said before the second round. Transcript saving can be switched off in Settings, and you can delete any of it whenever you like. The call audio and screenshots are never stored.

Before the day

Mock interview: hear yourself before they do

Most people know roughly what they want to say. The problem shows up when they say it out loud: the answer wanders, the example has no ending, or the salary figure comes out as a question. A mock interview catches that while it is still cheap to fix.

  • The free AI mock interview: enter the job title, listen to the questions, answer out loud and take the follow-ups. You get a report on pace, filler words, pauses, structure and a stronger version of each answer. The questions are read in English, so it is good practice for an interview in English. No account needed.
  • A rehearsal with someone you trust: ask a friend to play the hiring manager on a Teams call, and use your 10 free minutes to see how ClapAssist works from your CV.
Interview tips

Interview tips for candidates in Ireland

  • Have your salary as an annual figure in euro. Irish employers and recruiters usually talk about pay per year. Decide a range before the first call so you are not working it out on the spot.
  • Line up your referees early. Many offers in Ireland are made "subject to references". Ask two people now, and tell them which job you are going for.
  • Know your notice period and say it plainly when asked "When could you start?".
  • Expect competency questions, and not only in the public sector. Our guide to competency-based interview questions in Ireland shows how to answer them, including the newer capability-based interviews on publicjobs.ie.
  • Prepare in the right order. Read the job spec, match it to your CV, then practise out loud. The full week-by-week plan is in how to prepare for an interview in Ireland.
Teams, Zoom, Google Meet

Video interview help

ClapAssist hears whatever plays through your speakers or headset, so it works with any video interview without connecting to the platform. A Dublin tech firm may send a Google Meet link, a hospital group a Teams invite, a start-up in Galway a Zoom call. It behaves the same on all three.

Public sector interviews can also be on video. The publicjobs.ie interview advice describes three kinds: an automated video interview where you record answers to questions on screen, a live video interview with a panel, and an in-person interview. It also reassures candidates that the board "will not be assessing how comfortable you are on camera in a video interview". A recorded interview has no live interviewer, so treat it as practice material: prepare with ClapAssist, then follow the instructions you are given.

The first call

Phone interview: what works and what does not

Recruitment agencies in Ireland often ring before anything else. The questions are short and practical: your current role, your salary expectations, your notice period, whether you need an employment permit, and whether you can get to the office. ClapAssist helps when that call runs on your laptop, for example a Teams or Zoom call or WhatsApp Desktop.

If the recruiter rings your mobile and you take it only on the phone, the app cannot hear it. In that case use ClapAssist beforehand to prepare, and keep a few lines of notes in front of you.

Live help

The interview assistant in the live call

The hard moment is the second after a question you did not see coming: "Tell me about a time you had to win over a sceptical stakeholder" or "Why are you leaving after eighteen months?". ClapAssist shows a short frame built from your own projects and results, so you have something to start from while you gather your thoughts. You still choose the words.

Technical rounds

For software, data and engineering roles there are answer modes for coding (runnable code in the language on screen), system design, technical questions and SQL.

Hidden from screen share on every plan

Your operating system keeps the ClapAssist window out of screen shares and recordings on every plan, the free one included.

Read this first: some employers do not allow AI help in interviews or online tests, and assessments run under supervision have their own rules. Read the invitation and any candidate information booklet, and ask the recruiter if it is not clear. Breaking a rule can cost you the job, whatever the software does. More on is ClapAssist safe?
Graduates

AI interview practice for graduates

Graduate programmes in Ireland usually run in stages: an application, online tests, often a video interview, then a final interview or assessment day. Each stage asks the same thing in a different way: show us one real example. Your examples come from your degree project, your work placement, part-time work in a shop or bar, a society or a sports club.

Write down five or six of these, then practise them out loud with the mock interview until each one has a clear ending. The common questions with sample answers are in our list of interview questions for Ireland. In a live video round, ClapAssist can point you to the right example from your CV when the question lands.

Questions

Questions job seekers in Ireland ask

What is an AI interview assistant?

A desktop app that listens to your video interview on your own computer and shows a suggested answer for each question, built from your CV and the job spec. ClapAssist works on Mac and Windows with Teams, Zoom and Google Meet, and never joins the call.

Is there a free mock interview?

Yes. The ClapAssist AI mock interview is free with no account. It reads questions for your job aloud in English, asks follow-ups, and reports on pace, filler words, structure and content.

English is my second language. Will it follow the interview?

Yes. ClapAssist understands English and many other languages and writes down the call in the language spoken. Set "Answer in" to English to keep every suggested answer in English.

What if the recruiter rings my mobile?

The app cannot hear a call taken only on a mobile phone. It works when the call runs on your laptop, such as Teams, Zoom or WhatsApp Desktop. For a mobile call, use it to prepare beforehand.

Can I use it in a publicjobs.ie interview?

Read the rules in your invitation and candidate information booklet first. publicjobs.ie runs automated video, live video and in-person interviews, and some employers do not allow AI help. Use ClapAssist to prepare whenever live help is not allowed.

Is it a subscription?

No. After 10 free minutes there are three plans you pay for once: Practice, Sprint and Job Hunt. None of them renews. Prices are on the pricing page.
