ClapAssist shows answers built from your own CV while the interview is live: online panels, competency questions, graduate trainee interviews and technical rounds, on Teams, Zoom and Google Meet.
ClapAssist is an AI interview assistant for Mac and Windows. While you are in a Teams, Zoom or Google Meet interview, it listens on your own laptop, picks up each question and shows a suggested answer built from your CV and the job advert, within a few seconds. It never joins the call, and it does not show on your screen share.
More and more Kenyan hiring now happens on a screen. You apply on BrighterMonday, MyJobMag, Fuzu, LinkedIn or a company's own careers page, a recruiter calls, then a panel meets you online before anyone asks you to come to the office in Westlands or Upper Hill. Many candidates are also answering in English while thinking in Kiswahili, Sheng or their mother tongue. ClapAssist understands English and many other languages, and the "Answer in" setting keeps every suggested answer in English.
After the call, a written recap and the transcript are saved to your account, encrypted, so you can look back at what you said before the second interview. You can switch transcript saving off in Settings and delete any of it at any time. The call audio and screenshots are never stored.
In Kenya the first contact is very often a phone call to your mobile. A recruiter or HR officer asks a few quick things: are you still interested, what do you do now, what is your notice period, what are your salary expectations, can you come in on Thursday. Sometimes that short call is the first round of shortlisting.
ClapAssist can only hear a call that plays on your laptop, such as Teams, Zoom, Google Meet or WhatsApp Desktop. If the recruiter rings your mobile and you answer on the phone, the app cannot hear it. For those calls, prepare beforehand: decide your salary range as a gross monthly figure in shillings, know your notice period, and keep three lines about your current job written down next to you. If you can, ask politely whether the next round could be on a video call.
ClapAssist hears whatever plays through your speakers or headset, so it works with any video interview on your laptop without connecting to the platform. A Nairobi fintech might send a Google Meet link, an NGO a Zoom invite, a bank a Teams meeting. It behaves the same on all of them.
The Public Service Commission runs some of its interviews online on Cisco Webex. Its instructions for online video interviews are useful for any video interview, public or private:
Add one Kenyan tip of your own: plan for power. Charge the laptop fully, know where the nearest backup power is, and keep your phone hotspot ready in case the Wi-Fi drops. More on the whole day is in our job interview tips for Kenya.
Most people know what they want to say. The trouble starts when they say it out loud: the answer goes round in circles, the example has no ending, or the salary figure comes out as a question. A mock interview catches that while it is still easy to fix.
Panels in banks, NGOs, insurers and the public service like "tell us about a time" questions. Our guide to competency-based interview questions in Kenya shows how to build those answers with STAR, using examples from Kenyan workplaces.
The hard moment is the second after a question you did not expect: "Tell us about a time you handled a difficult customer" or "Why do you want to leave after only one year?". ClapAssist shows a short frame built from your own projects and results, so you have a starting point while you collect your thoughts. You still choose the words.
Graduates coming off industrial attachment or an internship often freeze on these, because their best examples feel small. They are not. A reconciliation you fixed at a SACCO, a stock count you ran in a supermarket, a class project you led: those are real answers. Our list of common interview questions for Kenya has sample answers you can adapt.
For software, data and engineering roles there are answer modes for coding (runnable code in the language on screen), system design, technical questions and SQL.
Your operating system keeps the ClapAssist window out of screen shares and recordings on every plan, the free one included. You can test it yourself before the interview with the screen share check.
